The name chrysos, which refers to gold in Greek, comes from the Greek word chrysos and the chemical compound beryllos. The Japanese name is Kinryuishi.
It is an oxide mineral of beryllium and aluminum, the hardest mineral after diamond and sapphire. Alexandrite and cat's eye, famous for their expensive gems, are variants of chrysoberyl.
Bororo offers items that make use of the shape of the raw stone. Some items are made with petal-like crystals called rind twins.
